Instructional Efficiency and Effectiveness Model

Context:

• Measuring instructional efficiency and effectiveness is a complex task that, to be maximally useful should inform rapid curricular change required in contemporary education.

• Advances in technology coupled with the widespread adoption of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) have created the need for rapid curriculum development and the need to support the implementation and evaluation of instructional efficiency and instructional effectiveness initiatives.

• Consequently, district pacing calendars, unit plans, lesson plans, instructional resources, curriculum material, and district curriculum policy documents are undergoing rapid change as districts add online assessment and instruction to the traditional classroom and adopt new approaches to teaching consistent with the CCSS.

• In order to inform curricular change, information on student ability must be available prior to and following instruction. Moreover, a systemic curriculum model must be in place to support change. This makes it possible to continuously modify curriculum to maximize standards mastery based on easily understood empirical information. It also provides a basis for matching instruction to student accomplishments and ongoing decision-making related to reteachng and enrichment.

• Within this context, today's presentation will illustrate the ways in which a Dialogic Curriculum and Assessment Model for standards-based curriculum development can assist districts to rapidly build and deploy common core curricula integrating assessment into the instructional process and help facilitate local instructional efficiency and educator effectiveness initiatives.
